Solar Panel Initiative

CHUP Powers Up!

Solar Panel Initiative for First U.P. Church of Crafton Heights
Our congregation at the First U.P. Church of Crafton Heights (CHUP) is eager to reduce our dependence on fossil fuels. We are committed to the stewardship of our planet by embracing renewable energy sources and hope our actions will inspire others to explore such investment.  This initiative will increase our resiliency as an institution by lowering our annual utility costs and allowing us to be better stewards of God’s creation.  This initiative allows us to focus on our responsibility to future generations as we seek to stay rooted in the community for decades to come. The scope of this project is to install a system of 40 solar panels on the roof of the CHUP building to fully offset the electricity usage of the church building.  The photovoltaic system (the special electrical system that produces energy from a renewable source—the sun) is anticipated to be installed in early spring of 2024 and will cost the church approximately $30,000 out-of-pocket once the Federal Tax Credit for renewable energy comes through. We are asking friends of CHUP, friends of Crafton Heights, and friends of the environment to consider joining us in this one small step toward a greener building, community, and planet.  There are many levels of giving – please choose the one that suits your budget as you help this congregation achieve our goals of sustainability and continuity in the neighborhood.
